Fourth Quarter Blog

A)In this year during April, I worked on my first job which was in my aunt’s office. I wanted to work there because my aunt’s job is working out accounts which are related to my major in college, business of administration. My aunt gave me some easy works to start with such as helping her calculate and counting the receipts. When I saw my aunt and her workers, I felt that this work is really difficult and needs a lot of hard work. Therefore, I hope I can be like my aunt that’s good at earning money and maintaining good interpersonal relations.

B)From my experience, I suggest students to choose and apply for colleges as soon as possible. It would be a great time to choose your college and research it during the summer when you’re going to twelfth grade. After you choose some colleges and make it into a list, find the dates that the application starts and when are the deadlines. It would be nice to begin filling the application when it opens and try to do everything as soon as possible so you don’t need to rush through it before you graduate. Also, if you have any problems about applications or colleges, you can ask school councilors or teachers for help. Last but not least, check your email at least three times a week to make sure if the colleges send some important messages or announcements to you so you can work on further instructions.

C)My plans for the summer are to borrow and study some business books from the library to prepare me for college.  Also, I’m planning to go to Japan in the middle of June with my cousins to visit my uncle in Tokyo. Furthermore, I will be heading to Irvine, California in the beginning of September with my parents to visit my college and then travel to San Diego to visit my aunt and cousins.  I will stay in San Diego for a week and then go back to Irvine to attend the freshman orientation in the middle of September. My parents will be traveling back to Taiwan the day before my school starts and it will be the time that I’m starting to do everything all in my own and learn how to be more independent.

Can Money Buy You Happiness?

What is happiness? Happiness can mean many things. It can either mean having lots of money for you to spend or having great moments with your family and friends. Happiness is not about getting possessions that you want but appreciating the possessions you have. Spending money on specific things you want can make you feel happy in that short time but it cannot make you feel happy forever. People you enjoy being with and the moment that you accomplish a cherished goal is the time that you actually receive happiness. Therefore, money cannot buy you happiness.

Why do people keep caring about money? The reason is that if they don’t have money, it could lead to stress. In addition, they care about money because they want to compare with other people on incomes and assets. Having all that money won’t make your life become happy. The important thing is to have precious people around you. For example, people who are poor can still live happily such as the people in Nepal. Those people struggle with hunger and lack of money, but because of the people around them, they can live joyfully. Money can certainly make you relieve stress but it cannot buy you happiness. In short, having less money can make your life become happier.

A person who has huge amounts of money or even has all the money in the world might not be happy forever. For example, in a book called “Titan: The Life of John D. Rockefeller, Sr.,” John D. Rockefeller, Sr. was the first billionaire in America. When he was thirteen, he started to earn his own money and donated money to his church and some other charities. Furthermore, he gave generously to the Rockefeller Foundation and the University of Chicago. People found out that he was really rich so they kept going to him and ask for money and even banging on his house front door just to get money from him. From this situation, it made John D. Rockefeller, Sr. live a depressing and tortured life. In brief, having all the money in the world won’t make your life become happier.

In conclusion, money cannot buy you happiness because what can make you happy is the loved ones around you, not the money. Spending money on possessions can only make you feel happy temporarily, not forever. Thus, the family and friends you enjoy spending time with are the real happiness that is everlasting.

Comments on "Good Fences Make Good Neighbors"

I agree that good fences make good neighbors because having fences around your house make you have your own privacy and your own space. Also, fences is a protective way to not let your neighbors come into your yard making a mess and disturbing you. For example, when neighbors have dogs and taking them for a walk, it's better to have a fence so then the dogs won't step into other neighbor's yard and make a mess. Therefore, I agree good fences make good neighbors because ii respects your neighbors and giving yourself a private life.

Story I Like

One of the story I like is the Leader of the People from the textbook by J.Steinbeck because there are many conflicts in this story which made me really interested in reading it. In this story, there are four conflicts. The first conflict is between Carl and Jody's grandfather.Second conflict is between husband and wife.Third conflict is between Carl and his son Jody. The last one is the internal conflict in Jody’s mind. The internal conflicts in this story makes the story more mysterious and exciting for the readers to read. Therefore, the Leader of the People is one of the story I like from the textbook.

Inform of a Good Place to Visit in Taiwan

If my cousins come back from Canada to visit me, I would take them to the National Palace Museum because every year, the National Palace Museum is the top tourist destination in Taiwan. There are many Chinese historical artifacts from the World War II were brought here to the National Palace Museum from the Palace Museum in Beijing and was packed and shipped off to Shanghai, Nanjing, Sichuan, and Taiwan during 1933 to 1965. Now this museum is the biggest and the precious museum in Taiwan. Visiting this museum is a nice way for tourists and my cousins to understand more about Taiwanese histories and cultures. Therefore, I would like to take my cousins to visit the National Palace Museum.

Response to recording by Jim Rohn

In track 5, the bad judgement is that small errors in judgement repeated over time. In track 6, he believes that success is achieved by a few simple disciplines practiced everyday. Furthermore, to eat an apple everyday to remain healthy. It talks about study success in track 7 that studying habits are important. Writing in a journal will help to achieve success and a more organize way to study. In my opinion, what Jim Rohn said in the recording is extremely inspirational and helpful for my life now because studying is a big part of being a student. Therefore, I would recommend this recording to all students in GCA.
